Guided Photography Field Trip of San Jose State University and the new City Hall
On Saturday January 30th, 2010, join the the Villages Camera Club to photograph or explore the first educational institution on the west coast, San Jose State University. Ranked at the top of “Americas Best Colleges” , the institution was established in 1857. It has expanded to a 23 campus university system, the largest in the nation. Its graduates have been the prime leaders of the Silicon Valley and US computer industry. And that is not mentioning alumnae golfers like Arron Oberholster, Juli Inkster, Pat Hurst, Patty Sheehan, Janice Moddie, Tracy Hanson, and our own greatest soprano ever Irene Dalis. The field trip leader will be Bev Wharton. We will meet 9:00 AM in front of the library and car pool to the light rail to take us to our destination.

ELKHORN SLOUGH FIELD TRIP
Thursday, 5 November, hardy members of the Camera Club embarked on a dangerous sea voyage to digitally capture of a variety of sea animals and birds. Equipment ranged from Jo's point and shoot in the bow to Don and Frank with the big glass in the stern. Survivors met at Cilantro's in Watsonville for a hearty Mexican dinner. This event was sufficiently successful that it may be repeated again next year. Photo courtesy of Mike Kulakofsky (who was put ashore).

NEWS FROM OUR PSA REPRESENTATIVE
Dear club members,
Please see the article entitled "Creative Definitions" found on the Download Files section regarding the criteria some regions use to judge the creative category.
Here are some points from that article.
-What is creative and what is not remains subjective and up to the judge.
-film and darkroom photography (say Ansle Adam ) did alter their taken photographs to make an art work.
-new digital tools can go beyond what could be done in a darkroom.
-two top level photographic categories: open, and creative/altered
-open images can utilize : border and frames, blurred images, texture or single filter, series, cutouts, selective coloring, toning, soft focus, replacing skies, changing a component, HDR, borderlines, different opacities, multiple exposure, stepping out of the frame, zoom effect.
We can discuss these as time goes on. In the mean time keep doing what you like to call creative.
